Mary's Apple Pie Recipe

 

Pie Crust : makes 2- 9 in. pie crusts

2 2/3 C flour
1 C Crisco, plain or butter flavored
1 t salt
6 T ice water water

Mix flour and salt in mixing bowl. Cut crisco with pastry cutter until mixture resembles tiny peas. Once mixture is right texture add ice water and combine with fork. Make ball out of dough and refrigerate at least 30 minutes. Use when cool but workable. Cut ball in half and roll each half out separately with floured rolling pin from center of ball outwards. Place one in lightly floured 9 inch pie plate. Save second crust for top of pie.



Apple Filling


5 cups apples
1 C sugar
2 T cinnamon
1/2 stick butter
1-2 T flour
A few tablespoons sugar for top of pie crust

Mix 5 cups peeled, cored and sliced apples (I mix about 3-4 different varieies together) together with sugar, cinnamon and flour. Pour mixture into crust lined pie plate. Top with slices of butter. Cover with remaining pie crust. Flute edge and cut slits into top crust. Sprinkle top crust with sugar. Cover edge of crust with foil for 1st 1/2 hour of baking. Bake at 350 for 80 minutes.

Serve warm with ice cream
